The most exciting junior cricket competition in Barbados, The Herman Griffith competition bowls off on October 17th, 2012. This competition, from which emerge future Barbados and West Indies players is currently in its 32nd year and attracts over 60 Primary schools from across Barbados. Its start coincides with passionate supporters who are there to cheer the many strokes and bowling attributes of the junior primary school children.

Over the 32 years, the Wesley Hall School has won the competition on the most occasions – 8, however in the 2012/2013 edition, the schools will seek to dethrone defending champions, Bayleys Primary. The Council and the public at large look forward to these clashes and while we have our favorites, Barbados cricket will emerge the winner, as the top performers make up the nucleus of the NSC’s Under 13 development squad.

“Pass Me The Ball, Mum”

The Browne family from Arch Hall, St. Thomas has created a number of firsts on the netball landscape in Barbados and the world.

Mother Jacqueline, has framed a solid defensive unit at the national level as well at her local club Pine hill St. Barnabas. Her two daughters, Sabrina and Samantha excelled at the sport at various age level competition at the local and regional level, no doubt under the instructions of their mum a netball coach by profession, and strong support from the family clan.

History was created in 2006 at the Commonwealth Games in Australia where Samantha played along side her mother Jacqueline as the first mother and daughter on an international team.

Coincidentally, the older daughter Sabrina narrowly missed selection.

Later in 2007, they repeated this occurrence, representing Barbados at the World Netball Championship in New Zealand.

The Family was also given the The National Sport Council's Family award in February 2012.
